Protect and love the fatherless

{ pray for us }

We are living in Uganda, East Africa for six months. Our days are spent working at children's home in Jinja, Uganda. Jinja is a colorful, bustling town with friendly people and crazy driving.  It's a living, breathing contradiction of beauty and brokenness.

Our days are spent working at the children's home full-time, teaching school, doing therapy, playing with the children, hanging laundry---and doing whatever the children and staff need from us most. You never know what a day will hold. We shadow the social workers in their village work and also visit other local orphanages and missions.

These six months are a cannon-ball splash into what God is doing in the orphan's world. Every day we wake up thankful to be under the African sun; we are learning so much as we work under its powerful rays.

We will be home in May 2012.

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress. { James 1:27 }

{ our vision }

Our heart is for adoption and the orphan crisis. Our long term vision is to adopt ourselves and to bring awareness to the orphan crisis to the churches in the United States. We would love to see Christians known for loving the orphans and adoption.

But before we begin our own adoption process and family, God is leading us to go overseas for up to six months to serve at an orphanage.

In a sense, this trip is for our future children—we desire to serve in a situation from where likely our children will come. We hope it will make us better adoptive parents as we seek to understand the third world orphanage system.

It is a trip to become more knowledgeable in the orphan’s world and see where God is moving in the crisis. It is a trip to give us a deeper sense of direction for our lives and ministry.

We know it is just six months, but we also know it is a step towards the rest of our lives. It is the next step in our commitment to live for God. We are humbled to be a small part of helping the poor, orphaned and hurting and count it as a tremendous privilege to go together as a young couple.

{ why now? }

Delmar ends his internship at Camp Andrews at the end of October 2011. It is the perfect time for us to go. We will be ending both job and home (we are in staff housing)—and we would like to do it before we begin our own family.

{ financial update }

Let's celebrate the faithfulness of God together.

  • We estimated it would cost $10,000 for our plane tickets, shots, gifts for the orphanage and all living expenses for four months.
  • Now that we are staying for two extra months it raises our costs by approximately $2270.

God smiled and poured out His blessing.

  • Through your faithful support, our the costs for our initial stay of four months have all been covered. Over $10,000 have been raised.

Thank you.

  • It means the world to us to know that others care about Uganda and its little orphans.
  • We are standing amazed at how God has worked through people to love us and love the orphans.
  • He truly does care.
